Vintage and Antique Flower Frogs
What in the heck is a flower frog? History says several things but one of the answers I give is that a patent was issued in the 1940s where it listed that this was a holder of flowers and sat in water like a frog. Thus the name stuck. Antique and vintage flower frogs have begee a hot collectible over the past 15 years. Martha Stewart somewhat started the interest in 1996 through an article in her Living magazine and by demonstrating wonderful arrangements using antique frogs on her TV show. Bonnie Bull wrote a book based on her expertness and a collection of over 7000 flower frogs. This was published in 1999, Flower Frogs for the Collector. She catalogues flower frogs by glass, pottery and metal. It is an excellent source for reference and a good guide line for pricing.
